Anthony “The Assassin” Njokuani and Vinc “From Hell” Pichel have agreed to meet in a lightweight fight at UFC 173 in Las Vegas on May 24th.
Pichel, who is coming off of a dominant decision victory over Garett Whiteley at UFN 35 had this to say about the pairing, “I’ve seen tape on him and I want to test my striking and he’ll be a good test.”
Come fight night, Njokuani will have been out of action for a year since his last fight, which was an impressive knockout of Roger Bowling last April. An injury to his neck is the reason for the layoff, but he has been cleared and the Dallas native will be back in action in his new home city of Las Vegas, NV on the undercard of what looks to be the biggest card of 2014. UFC 173 of course features the middleweight title fight between Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida and Junior Dos Santos vs Stipe Miocic.
Njokuani has been unable to mount a win streak due to narrow decision losses to Edson Barboza, Danny Castillo and most recently Rafael Dos Anjos in between his impressive victories. He will look to change that May 24th.
Njokuani has been asked to help Barboza train for his upcoming fight against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone so his next few weeks will likely be spent back East as a sparring partner for another elite lightweight striker.
