As the Ultimate Fighting Championship prepares to wrap up the first year of its partnership with Fox, the promotion has already begun to lay out its schedule for 2013.
The biggest announcement comes in the form of a Jan. 26 visit to the United Center in Chicago for the promotion’s sixth appearance on the Fox network. The same venue hosted UFC on Fox 2 last January and one fight targeted for next year’s visit is Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone vs Anthony “Showtime” Pettis. Additionally, the network will host three more live events which take place April 20, July 27 and Dec. 14.
Also revealed by the Las Vegas-based company was the location of its April 27 light heavyweight title bout between current champion Jon Jones and former middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen. The pair will lock horns at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., live on pay-per-view. The two are currently serving as coaches for the 17th season of the promotion’s flagship reality program, The Ultimate Fighter. The show is expected to debut in January 2013 on FX.
“2013 is shaping up to be a huge year for the UFC and we can’t wait to bring more great fights to Fox!” said UFC President Dana White in an official press release. “We’re going to continue to take the UFC all over the world putting on the biggest and best fights. Fox is an amazing broadcast partner and we’re going to do some big things next year.”
