Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will make the drop in weight to face featherweight kingpin José Aldo.UFC President Dana White announced the news in a fan Q&A session on Facebook today.

The pair were supposed to fight at UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro, but an injury forced Aldo from the fight in his hometown. Edgar will now look to join Randy Couture and B.J. Penn as the only fighters to be champions in two UFC divisions on one of the biggest sporting weekends of the year.

Edgar is coming off of two narrow decision defeats to Benson Henderson, while Aldo is riding a long win streak including three title defenses since becoming UFC champ after the WEC merger.

The date for the event is Feb. 2, and although no venue has been announced, Mandalay Bay is a likely candidate. The UFC has held all but one of it’s event on the eve of ‘the big game’ there since 2004.
