Dana White announced on “UFC Tonight” that Urijah Faber will fight for the interim title at UFC 148 following Dominick Cruz tearing his ACL. White said he is looking for the guy who deserves the shot at the belt.
The leading candidate is Renan Barao (28-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC), who is currently set to take on Ivan Menjivar (24-8 MMA, 3-0 UFC) on the same card. Michael McDonald (15-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) has an outside chance, but is more likely to fill into the potential contender fight should one of the previous names be inserted against Faber.
Cruz will stay on as coach on “The Ultimate Fighter Live,” as members of his team wished.
